On April 30, we got to hang out with these awesome 6th and 7th graders from The Clubhouse-Dreambuilders.org from Dayton, Ohio!  The Clubhouse is a nonprofit organization that trains teens to design and run free after school and summer programs to low income families.  We worked with the awesome future young leaders of this group.

Despite the pouring rain (because homelessness doesn’t stop when the weather is bad) we sent these young teens out onto the streets to participate in our Service Seekers Scavenger Hunt.  They were divided up into two “families.”  One family had to find what services are available to a single mom with children, and the other group had to find what services a Veteran experiencing homelessness could receive.  While out finding the locations of the shelters, soup kitchens, a place to shower and so forth, the teens were displaying the startling statistics of the reality of homelessness in our city.  They did great!

If you have a group that would like to participate in this education program, or to find out about other programs that we offer, please contact us!  Service/Volunteering is wonderful, but a Service Learning experience can really take volunteering to another level.
